Insufficient cheaper alternatives and a large former refugee population are fuelling tree-felling and dependence on charcoal in the self-declared republic of Somaliland, adversely affecting the environment, say analysts.

May I suggest another source of charcoal? Typha and Phragmites can both be made into charcoal. It does need briquetting. You have these plants in Somalia. Most everywhere in Africa, they are a problem. Recently, an article entitled " can green charcoal save trees?" was published on this site. Read it for your immediate answer.
