Haiti may have been the first black republic, but Anne Khaminwa is unconvinced by Kimani Waweru's call for Kenya to learn from and emulate its history. Today Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world, beset by environmental problems, violence and lawlessness says Khaminwa.

you realy try hard to put haiti down and you did,but i have a question for you:is this the kenia that everybody knows you talking about or you're having a bad day.you are nothing but a flip flap.haiti may be poor, but we dont like it when others are using us as the pariah of the world.as you know,we have highly educated people just like any other country on the planet,so stop talking shit about my country, cuz you know i know that nothing is going on in your country either.stop kidding yourself.
All i have to say this article is nonsense. In 1804, (Haiti) African Slaves revolted and successfully gained freedom. At this time, Haiti was symbolized "freedom" human rights pioneer " Liberty and Equality for all". We helped some Hispanic countries to conquer freedom. Haiti was the only nation in Americas that paid the French
All i have to say this article is crap! crap! Crap! In 1804, (Haiti) African Slaves revolted and successfully gained freedom. At this time, Haiti was symbolized "freedom" human rights pioneer " Liberty and Equality for all". We helped some Hispanic countries to conquer freedom. Haiti was the only nation in Americas that paid the French colonists an indemnity of over $90 million. Don't blame Haiti, blame its politicians much the same as some African countries. Haiti's culture is the strength of Haitian people, don't even talk about it. Today Haiti is hope. Don't come with problems, but bring optimistic plans.

Wow! just to be brief,If indeed you hail from Oxford, you should have read somewhere that Haitians are usually mentioned as Unique, Resourcefull, and the smartest people on this planet. Ask yourself why such a small country others claim as the poorest of the WESTERN hemisphere is constantly in the present news? Do you believe it is only because of its monumental history? Or its current problems? Or maybe, just maybe, it might be Haiti's Human POTENTIAL whichrequires so much energy to be refrained? Why are there so many foreigners living in such conditions in Haiti? (Check the numbers?)Why are there so many American operatives in Haiti? Do you think the leaders of so many countries in Africa who have welcomed Haitians for their help are misguided? In your writing, you have exposed your own self hatred of African values. Unless you were paid to write this opinion, I am afraid that your indoctrination may almost be complete with your convictions. All that is left for you to do is to change your skin color, facial, and hair features. On second thought, you may already have done so.
True. Kenya may be better off than Haiti politically and economically, but can't the author focus on what Kenya should be doing. Patting ourselves on our back simply because we consider ourselves as better than a worse off country is a defeatist mentality. Its akin to someone saying 'yeah, i know my house is dirty but i won't clean it because my neighbour's house is dirtier'
Get my point?
I'm a Kenyan and I know of Haitians who are very progressive and educated. Readers should be beware that this author's comments are only reflective of his narrow-minded perspective.
I am glad that a Kenyan finally spoke up in defense of Haiti and their courageous and pioneer spirit, which is still lacking in most, and I dare say, ALL African countries, including Africans residing in Oxford. I am a Nigerian and I always feel proud of Haiti's history of fierce independence. The first and only slave colony, anywhere, to reject and revolt against its oppressors at a time that American slaves dared not raise their heads to look their oppressors in the face. Haitians are the true LIONS of all black people. At a time when black Africans were still capturing their neighbors to be sold into slavery to their white and Arab masters, Haiti became the only black nation to defeat the World Superpower -the almighty Napoleon of France. The impoverishing of all Haitians, for all times, became the western policy for such effrontery – a price for which that brave people still pay until today. I am ashamed that Fahamu dared publish this senseless article and I am cancelling my subscription to Pambazuka for this crass journalism, until that Anne Khaminwa apologizes. It is uncalled for in Africa, especially, Africans in Oxford. Long live Haiti and its brave people...the pride of Africa!!!
all I can say about this article is fuck you K times
