The advent of pipeline explosion and the inherent vandalism in Nigeria is
considered the norm of the society rather than exceptions. In the wake of
these incessant and disruptive activities which had plaged our society for
years, we tend to ignore the root causes, which is not just poverty, per
se, but lack of enforcing the appropriate legislations to deter potential
brigands. Human casualties aside, the system should clamdown heavily on
preventing any type of housing arrangement within the periphery of the
pipeline installations given the nature of the products themselves, as
combustive as they are. In the final analysis, we can then say that
surveillance and constant monitoring will complement each other to bring a
lasting solution to this perennial problem.
