Humanitarian aid to Sudan has been restored following the government's expulsion in March of some aid organizations, but the U.S. special envoy for Sudan says the suffering of refugees in camps is continuing and there is much to be done to improve the situation ahead of national elections and a referendum on southern Sudanese independence.

An immediate crisis has been averted in Darfur following the March expulsion of over one dozen non-governmental organizations (NGOs), but the humanitarian gaps left in the wake of their ouster must be filled to help the people in the war-torn Sudanese region, the top United Nations relief official said today.

Sudanese Presidential Adviser in-Charge of the Darfur file, Dr. Ghazi Salaheddin, today paid an official visit to UNAMID Headquarters in El Fasher. He was received upon arrival, by UNAMID Joint Special Representative (JSR), Mr. Rodolphe Adada, Deputy Joint Special Representative; Mr. Henry Anyidoho; and other Senior Officials.
