I applaud this great effort to protect and increase the natural resources of Tanzania. I too can see Kili from my front steps, which, while a beautiful site, does suggest that the forest resources around my village are also rapidly decreasing. As the director of an environmental non-profit in Tanzania, I can attest to the fact that the planting of trees as individual effort to give back to nature in the country is becoming a common discussion and activity, and children across the country are being engaged in environmental efforts in their schools and local communities. Thanks to these efforts, the next generation of Tanzania will continue these efforts. It is also critical, however, that broad-based adult environmental education continue as well, since in Tanzania, life is difficult, and a local community can and will easily decimate its natural resources within years, not generations. With a beautiful environment and a thoughtful and caring community, Tanzania can be an example to its developing neighbors of how to build up its society at the same time that it maintains respect for its historical culture and environment. Kudos to this project and many others like it.
