Perhaps it takes an American to think of others who transcend(ed) color. Nelson Mandela. Jackie Robinson. Roy Campanella. The latter two broke the "color barrier" in major league baseball in America. Willie Mays. My two favorite baseball stars today - Curtis Granderson and Alfonso Soriano. Jazz great, Louie Armstrong. The Rev. Martin Luther King. Harry Belafonte. Richard Roundtree. Don Cheadle. Denzel Washington. Will Smith.Guy Bluford, the first African-American in space, which also celebrated the first night launch and the first night landing. Major General Charles Bolden, Jr., the new head of NASA. There are many voices in America who have not only broken the color barrier but about whom I had to stop and think, to come up with their names, because I don't think of them by their color!

But, for music? I guess I'd have to agree with you that Michael Jackson became MJ - a fantastic artist, a philanthropist, and a sad man-child due to his unhappy childhood.

May we all remember him for his music, his "moonwalk", for his talent, for his inventive choreography. RIP Michael Jackson.
