I am a foreigner who visited Ghana 3 times in the 1990's. I was disgusted by the filth and amazed at the lack of toilet facilities in a busy city like Accra and Kumasi. One question I asked myself was, "Why do Ghanaians spend more energy and money on their funerals than simple hygiene, or education?" Now I ask, "Why do Ghanaians spend more on cheap and nasty Chinese merchandise than they do on simple hygiene, or education"? A new economy in Ghana with locally made compost toilets and other basic and essential technology could truly help lift the country out of its' shame. I hope my children, who happen to have a Ghanaian father, can visit someday, and be proud of their heritage. A friend of Ghana
