Both the government and the airlines have to live up to the responsibility they owe the Nigerian Public to manage and develop the aviation industry. A bail out is not in order as the airlines have never operated with clear and objective business plans guided by financial discipline. The government on the other hand, is not used to transparent and accountable execution of the country's aviation policy. The airlines need to consolidate resources through strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions. This will provide a chance that they'll be managed with a level of responsibility and not at the whims and caprices of the current "sole proprietor" owners. The government should facilitate "interest free loan guarantees" which should be transparently monitored by the senate committee and "The Aviation advisory Council" (Which NASI has been advocating for). The BASA ( Bi lateral Air Service Agreements) funds currently being discussed should provide a perfect starting point for stabilising the current decay. But without transparency and accountability, all efforts will be completely pointless.
