Nigeria's President at the time Chief Olusegun Obasanjo told him lies and encouraged him to go on a mysterious journey that led to his arrest as he approached this country's border with Chad, former Liberian President Charles Taylor said at The Hague yesterday.

This article is making me to laugh beyond repairs. So the game was between Con Artist Naira and Con artist Liberty or J.J. Creole man say "man pass man". Meaning, no matter how smart you're, there is always some one who is smarter that you. Taylor, shouldn't tell us about people lying to him. He's lied morethan he can imagine of telling true in his life.
I'm beginning to feel sorry for Taylor, now.Especially, when he said, "he hopes he would live to look Chief Obasanjo in the face one day and ask him to tell the truth about what happened". Well, Mr. Taylor, if you entrust Chief Obasanjo with the Diamonds that you looted from Sierra Leone or anyone else, that is the end. They'll be rich on your back as you got rich out of Sierra Leone. There'll be no quick return for you to Liberia. Only if you tell the World of the secret underground that you stored your looted capital in,then maybe we can manage to give some to your remaining children in Liberia. Bravo to Chief Olusengon Obasanjo!

Charles Taylor decided to leave the Liberian presidency for asylum in Nigeria because he wanted peace in his West African homeland, he today told Special Court for Sierra Leone judges in The Hague.

All of what Taylor is saying about his decision to go to Nigeria just on August 11 2003 amount to mere blasphemy.
At least those displaced Liberians and foreign nationals who occupied the Graystone Compound, the UNOMIL building, the Wellington Appartment and the Haider Buildings at the Mamba Point can attest that Taylor, his defense minister,Daniel Chea and all of his political stalwarts were completely demoralised by Damate and his advancing LURD forces. There was a time between July and August 2003 especially, when Daniel Chea could not use the Broard Street to come down to Sinkor from the Ducal Hotel at the end of Broad Street.Instead,Chea would use the UN Drive, gets through the Mamba Point Diplomatic enclave, then dribble through the Mamba Point Hotel, the Ambassador Hotel and the old internal affairs building to get to the BTC before getting to Sinkor either by way of the Jallah town intersection or just driving between the executive mansion and the capitol. It was then that Taylor was made to realise that he and his cohorts combined could not repel the troubles of Damate Corneh.Such a moment must have been one that coerced Taylor to leave Liberia for sanctuary elsewhere in Nigeria, thinking that Obasanjo had an artificial heaven to hide him(Taylor).
If Taylor had earlier told leaders at the June 4 2003 meeting in Ghana that he would resign,he had only done so thinking that said vague promise would ease the pressure on him, hence allow him plan further mayhem. Why did Taylor promise to "fight from street to street and from house to house" at the height of battle for control of Monrovia shortly before his departure in 2003?Was it because he wanted to fulfil promise he earlier made at the June 4 peace talks in Ghana?May be he was hopeful of getting more arms and amunition from some sources.
Taylor has indeed been duped. His admirers must know that this "papay"is not any longer as omniscient as earlier concieved.
Where in this acticle that says Taylor Admits Aiding Rebels? This is how you people post lies. Most of you will commit suicide at the end of the trial.
borri, I ask that you read the November 4th,2009 article on this site, with the caption, "Taylor Admits Aiding Rebels". Taylor's tesimony of admitting to the crime, was due to the truth that his Former V.P. Moses Blah revealed to the Special Court for Sierra Leone in the Hague.
Borri, I'm glad you're back on this site. I missed your posts for a long time. I thought you were dead and gone because in Liberia, you're still hunting and killing your own brothers who oppose your crimes and deeds. Take care!
Borri,
Keep up the good work. As we say in Liberia all those people who thought Charles Taylor committed crimes in Sierra Leone " will be made shame". Can you imagine after years of preparation and millions of dollars spent. The first week of Mr. Taylor's cross examination had to be cancelled because Ms. Hollis was not ready to proceed. " I say Ghankay"
Aki, you're praising a blind man who moves with the support of some one else.Take his stick from him and see where he leads to. If you don't know that is the game of Law (Listen, Accept Wrong).

To all those who were pointing fingers the wrong places. Now that Talor has admitted doing this graffic destructions and wrongs to Sierra Leone and her people; what are we going to say about it ??? Is Talor guilty ?? If so, he should never be forgiving. Killings your own brothers and sisters for your greediness, and to support those who never care for your own; is the greatest crime ever.
Foryoh, under no conditions that I tttahs will move away from me blaming this Liberian bandict call Charles Gangkay or Gangay Taylor for the war he sponsored against my country Sierra Leone. One interesting point he made, was to say that 'horrific, nortorious, useless rebel and bandicts' leader, Johnny Paul Koroma was well and alive'. Some of us know this is very true. Johnny Paul Koroma is either in Liberia or Burkina Faso.
No matter how long he stays away,we'll get him one day.He should read about the "Nazi war criminals" who are been tracked almost every year. On this post, one time I did dispute the fact that Johnny Paul Koroma's grave was found in Liberia. This was a complete mockery to the Intellegence of those who know some of the stories. Follow my posts, you'll see some truth in it. One day we'll reveal the name of his sponsors in Burkina Faso.
For me,all I want to Taylor do is to say to the Sierra Leonean people that he is sorry for the evil that he did to Sierra Leoneans. If he can do this,I swear I'll get on the national radio in favour of Taylor to ask Sierra Leoneans to forgive him(Taylor).Anything falling short of this, will get Taylor to hell. I don't like to see people lie. To Taylor supporters,I say to you the 'the bells of truth are ringing slowly and slowly'.
The next point, Taylor is trying to hold a rope because he is dwroning in the pacific ocean. That rope is Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. He should keep his lies away from this good woman.

Charles Taylor today accused the prosecution of "misleading the court" by introducing evidence that as Liberian president, Mr. Taylor acted to resolve conflicts between Sierra Leone's rebel commanders, appoint a chief rebel leader in his warring neighboring country, and then independently offer safe haven in Liberia to a top rebel on the run. Mr. Taylor is on trial by the Special Court for Sierra ...

Waoooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It seems Taylor's vocabulary is no longer as expanded as it used to be while he reigned in Liberia.
Why should he link his trial to racism? Can't he see the peace imminent in the Mano Riviver Union Basin-especially since he left Monrovia on August 11 2003?This is someone who betrayed the peace loving people of Liberia. He terrorized them for over a decade.Hence trauma deep-rooted in fear coerced said people to elect him to power on July 19,1997,thinking such would fulfil his ambition and eventually see an end to mayhem in LIberia and beyond.Instead,as soon as he assumed authority,Taylor became so power-drunk and appeared a somewhat toxic octopus with his tentacles all over his immediate neighbourhood to devour even innocent babies. Taylor is more a grief than any relief at all to Liberia and its neighbours.
To : Vandi. What kind of peace are you referring to in the so-called Minor River Basin? Is it the peace in Guinea where the Guinean Gov. is using its citizens to target practice or is it the peace in Liberia where people are in constant fear of arm robbers-night and day. I think thetre was more peace and security in Liberia when taylor was president than under Ellen.
Emmazoryon, you need to shut your mouth if you can't recall history or see reality. Are you saying that Liberians had peace when Taylor, that criminal was in power? The arm robbers that are hanging around in Liberia are Taylor's murderous he armed while looting the neighboring countries. I pitty you guys that benefited from this criminal. You should be ashamed to compare the era of Ellen to Taylor. Can't you see the difference? Are you blind by stupidity or mere ignorance? You Taylor supporters should pray that war crimes don't find you one day. The blood of the innocent people will hunt you down until you repent and ask for forgiveness. Taylor committed these crimes period. He should be man to defend his cause and stop lying. He's now calling his own general liar when he's the father of lies. Until he can come clean and confess his deeds, justice awaits him. I guess, you one of those that didn't care about the lives of babies left on side of the roads to died when you guys were on your killing spree.
to: judgement09 and Co.: I must make a few things clear to you: I have never used a gun in my whole life.I left Liberia on Sept.1,1990 and went to Ghana and I lived there until 2001 when I left for the USA.
I went for short visits to monrovia and Buchanan in 1997,1998 and the early part of 2001 and not one day I was harrassed by and ATU/SSU.I went out a lot late at night and no one bothered me.
We didnt have 15,000 United Nations police and soldiers in Liberia during the taylor years, but the was relative peace and security compared to what we have in Liberia at present-with all the international support the gov. is getting and the presence of all the UN troops. The level of peace and security in Liberia should be by far better than what it is now.
And talking about taylor being the cause of the economic suffering in Liberia.I want to say that you are mistaken.Ellen must also be held responsible, because she helped to plan and finance the civil war.She wanted to be president so bad that she didnt care how the position was won,but when Taylor gave her koto she turned his enemy. She finally got the position at last by crook( dont forget her cousin was the election commissioner, and you can not tell me that George weah didnt win the 2005 election).
are you aware that ellen administration has received more that US ONE BILLION $$$ since she came to power? why is so much suffering in that country with such a small population? She and her friends in her gov are sending the money right back to the US to pay support their families and buy properties.
Whether you agree or not,Taylor was better than ellen to me and it is my right to have an opinion so dont be causing now.We must always agree to disagree.dont forget that my brother.
If sierra leone and guinea was not so busy helping Lurd, etc. to be invading liberia from their countries taylor might done something for that country.he was not given all the chance ellen has at her disposal and what hsa she done? you tell me.
Hello Emmanzoryon,
I think Vandi is saying that without Taylor, there is now peace in Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia. Althought there are armed robbers in Liberia, but at least the people are not living in fear like before.
Remember when people's hands were been cut off in Sierra Leone? When Charles Taylor, his son and their ATUs were terrorizing innocent Liberians?
And Judgement, please watch your words when talking to another person. It is very rude to tell someone to shut his or her mouth. I think we should be civilized, educated, and gentle enough to know how to approach other people even if they offen us. Thank you for your understanding. Case close !!!!!!!!!!
Emmazoryon dont hurt your head on these sallone boys.. They still cant get over their own sierra leoneans choping and killing their own people like that. You ever saw that happening in liberia.Sierra leone, the home of the pioneers are saying taylor used them like slave against their own people? Where are the experience from being the first returning slave in africa? At this time you guys should know that slavery does not exist anymore. Accept the facts and find other acticles to comment on. I think you sallone boys should use your energy on stoping corruption, and rebuilding your country. We will like to see some of those comments.
To: EMMAZORYON
I mean the peace felt acroos Liberia and neighbouring countries since Taylor gave power to Blah on August 11 2003.Although it may have been slow in coming but it is now felt everywhere in Liberia.I know hardship still reigns this war-ravaged society but agree with me,those in authority are those working hard to fix this shattered society. And,from every vantage point,it takes much more time and costs much more resource to build than it takes to destroy. If it took Liberia 14 years to sense merciless destruction of infrastructure and human resource,it must take same society perhaps thrice that period to realise total recovery.I hope I am offering you the right therapy.
So what you sense in Liberia at the moment is just mere hardship emanating from the work Taylor and his cohorts did for and your followers.Such hardship cannot in any way be compared to those bitter encounters Liberians went through while Taylor ruled. Then, warfare often subjected innocent men, women and children to trauma in the form of shame, pain and fear.
Coming to the present state of affair in Guinea, this is not a war situation like one you sensed in June,July and August 2003 or at least in November 1992.What Guineans are sensing now is the work of despotism, simply dictaorship-one thing Liberians must have sensed had they ventured to protest against Taylor's rule while he was in power between 1997 and 2003. I wish you proper guidance
EMMAZOYORN or whatever you are called,
I have time for my tutorials.those armed robbers in Monrovia are those unfortunate brothers of yours who were swayed by Taylor and other war-lords to take up arms and kill your fellow country men.The least-well,however is that when these guys took training to fight for the NPFL,ULIMO,MODEL or LURD,they were each told at the end of their training sessions that their arms were their livelihoods-major source of sustenance.Given this, some of this guys could not disarm quite entirely.Today, with these guys left without jobs or any established means of survival, they still see the use of these arms as the way out in sustaining themselves. That's why you have these armed robbers over there. But agree with me,under Taylor, people could not gather to speak against the odds effected by Taylor and follwers.Take a retrospective glance, for example,at what happened on the campus of the state university-LU on the 7th of March 2003.There was panic everywhere as a student received a call from a girlfriend that Taylor's SSS was planning an unslaught on the campus.hose things never happened under Ellen.
Taylor is the least intelligent president Liberia could ever have. How often did he as a sitting president visit even the Tubman High Scholl on 12th Street? Not at any time, let alone visit the state university where citizens are prepared to serve country.
To: Masaray. Thanks for your reply, but you did not comment on all the comparisons I made between the Taylor era( the odds his administration faced and the level of security Liberians had inspite of all the regional and international constraints on him,and the Ellen era ( with all the international fanfare, the financial supports pouring in from every part of the globe, the professional and technical assistance the Govt. has gotten, the investers, the 15,000 UN personnel, the absence of insurgencies, the ever increasing revenue to the national covers, etc.)With all these advantages ellen's Gov. enjoys, where is the progress? You tell me.I dont call it progress when people cant go the bed in peace because of fear of arm robbers;when there are a numbers of things the Gov. can do to curb this problem, but due to the incompetence and lack of honesty of your president's appointees nothing has been achieved.look at national develpoment and tell me,with a straight face, the progress after 4 years. You have 85% of our people living in abject poverty, they have no access to safe drinking water,no access to primary health care, people dont even know where their next meal will come from, with all the corruptions abd abuse in ellen's Gov. where she has done little or nothing to avert the thieft of our badly needed wealth and you will be singing praises of her gov? It is this same ellen who and a few so-called connected, upper classed Liberian in the US who started a smear campaign against Taylor, simply because they were not the ones who won the 1997 elections.
I am simply saying that if Taylor had all the support( fron UN,donor countries, etc.) he would have done better than Ellen has achieved so far.
What do you think would have been the situation with Ellen if all the situations taylor faced still persisted?
Catch you later.Have to go do my 8 hours.I love Liberia and know that I am an honest person who will call a spade a spade.
Ho could Taylor have had these supports?Foremost of all,the international community allowed Liberians to demonstrate their love for Taylor without hinderance as is evident in the July 19 1997 elections which brought him to power. But as soon as Taylor assumed authority,he became a very toxic octopus with a devilish intent. He then spread his tentacles all over the place. While Sierra Leone continued to fall prey to his attacks,Taylor also thought of involving Guinea and the Ivory Coast. If you visit the VOA-1 Camp in Brewerville,am sure people there would tell you how one Mualem Sannoh died at a battle front in Guinea. He(Mualem Sannoh) and others were dswayed by Taylors foremost pillars,Daniel Cheah and Mosquito to hoodwink economically-disadvantaged young men into fighting in both Guinea and the Ivory Coast.Taylor never placed any serious focus on that of rebuilding Liberia. He wanted more power. But his mistake then, that since Liberians rewarded him with the Liberian presidency for the mayhem he and his men caused in Liberia, that smae would help him secure a stronger and broarder mandate of being an emperor.
So,the international community could not think of supporting any reconstruction projects under Taylor because he could not submit any such for such for international perusal and susequent support.
Ellen's administration is focused on fulfilling at least 25% of election promises. That's why she's first striving to free Liberia of her debts and further cry for more help. But remember,it took Liberia 14 years to see total destruction of lives and infrastructure. It must take same thrice that period to sense total reconstruction.Ellen can't do much even if you allowed her in power for a decade.
My advise to you and followers therefore is to do away with desparation at the moment.Be more problem-focused.Don't go that incontinent of emotion.
I understand your point but why must progress be so slow with all the assistance we are getting and why must the president keep on dragging her feet in dealing with this corruption issue decidedly? We cant afford for a dollar that could be used to move the country ahead ending up in the pocket of friends of the president's and nothing done about it even with proofs from GAC. I was a staunch supporter of Ellen, still have some love for her,but I want her to set examples of those people who are eating our money.Corruption has the potential to keep our country down.
I love Liberia and there isnt anything i wont do to better our country.
Have a great day.
Emma, again I will say that you are either blind or your judgement is impaired by your loyalty to Taylor. The international community supports leaders that conforms to international norms. Why should they support Taylor's government if he felt everyone was stupid and he didn't need them? If you claimed that during Taylor's era you travel to Buchanna and other places without intimidation, then probably you were one of his supporters or you had relatives that were part of his killing gangster. The current security situation in Liberia is the remnant of that criminal called Taylor bandits. Whether you like it or not, Taylor will forever be remembered as one of the worst rebel leaders in the world. The God that we serve is just and the blood of the innocents are crying for justice. If you know a lot to defend him, I advice that you go to the Hague to plea on his behalf. Liberia is moving on, we don't have time for people that are bend on retarding progress. If Taylor and his bandits didn't continue their senseless war for 14 years, then maybe, the illiteracy and poverty rates would be lower. You are now in the U.S. can't you see the result of good governance and not jungle justice like your boss Taylor?
Vandi and Judgement09 for God’s in heaven sake your need to stop making these emphatic comments without any justification. The reason there is a so-called peace in the Mano River basin is because ULIMO/LURD is no longer attacking Liberia from Sierra Leone and Guinea and being sponsored by the US and GB. You guys need to follow the trial in The Hague and stop misleading the public. At the moment, the court is in recess, they’ll be back on October 26th. If you can’t watch the live trial, please read the transcript.
TO:ZOTA
Even a newly born baby in Liberia and neighbpuring countries would agree that the name Charles Taylor is much more synonymous with mayhem that those G.V.Kromah and Damate Corneh-leaders of the ULIMO and LURD respectively.
When did we start to hear of ULIMO and LURD?It was long after Taylor's NPFL had killied Liberians in their myriads.People then went mad and decided to at least slow down the pace at which Taylor and his NPFL were killing your fellow Liberians.
So,you see,we are not hearing of ULIMO and LURD any more because this man whose atrocities saw the formation of these retaliating forces is not any more active.I know you love the name Taylor because it sounds like "tailor"-one who adds to your beauty by sewing for you a nice-looking French or Englisg coat suit. But this is not the tailor under review. This "Taylor'symbolises mayhem at its peak. His absence ushers in peace as is the case in Liberia since this "Taylor"was coerced to quit the Liberian political arena.
Vandi Mansaray, If what you are saying is true. Then how come Charles Taylor was elected with over 73% of the vote? Why didn't the populace vote for your Alhaji Kromah or the other warlords including Ellen Sirleaf?
TO:AKI Thank you very much,Aki,for your question.
Foremost of all, agree with me,Aki,the trauma of war reduces human conscience.Said trauma always comes in the form of shame, pain and fear, like I said in preceding comments. One of these three aspects of trauma-fear in particular, causes its prey to act in one or all of three ways:foolishly, thoughtlessly and/or dangerously.
With such understanding,Taylor and his men started by exposing the Liberian people to those kinds of horrifying sensations these peace loving citizens never had before their arrival. These sensations appeared in the form of sadistic rapes, merciless murder, the use of human intestines to form NPFL-controlled check-points,you help complete the list.Remember, this happened for eight consecutive years (1989-1997).The people of Liberia, overweighed by trauma deep-rooted in fear, were then left with no option but to elect this skilled murderer to power, thinking that failure to do so would see further mayhem in the society.Infact, what the people thought would further help quell Taylor down during the campeign season in the country was to manipulate a song suggesting that they had forgotten all else that Taylor did to them and that they were ready to make him president. That song as you can remember it even now was"he killed our mums,he killed our dads,we will vote for him".That was how Taylor won the July 19 1997 elections which saw him innaugurated on August 2 that year.
Coming to Alhji G.V.Kromah.He did his own mistakes by using fire to extinguish an existing fire but the basis was perhaps well-established.One aimed at slowing down the pace at which Taylor and cohorts were killing the Khran and Mandingos.I personally would want to assume that if ever Kromah conteseted the 1997 presidential elections,he must have done so to assume some political popularity-not merely as president but as someone who matters in the society.
With Ellen Johnson,it's needless to comment. But since you need some conseling,I will offer you some.History exists that in Liberia, the females and the primitive Liberians have the country at heart than do their male and Kongo counterparts.Take a look at what Matilda Newport did-making Liberia the only country on the west coast of Africa that never suffered colonisation at the hands of any western power.Remember, colonisation is simply"imposition"euphemised.Through the cannon used by Mailda Newport, all western powers seeking to impose their cultural values on Liberia (like happened to Sierra Leone between January 1,1808 through April 26,1961)became afraid and could not satiate their ambition in this regard.Next to Matilda Newport came Angie Brooks-the first black( female) to head the United Nations General Assembly. As we speak, the first ever female president on the continent of Africa is the Ellen Johnson you and your followetrs do not favour simply because she is not the like of Taylor. Let's get to the work of a primitive or uneducated Liberian who demonstrated much love for the country as is eveidenced in the market buildings in Jorgben town-Plunkor,Old Road,Water Side,Logan town,Duala,to name but a few.But what abot the most popular S.K.D sports complex?Still not pleased, take a glance at the Bo-Monrovia highway. It adds to the pride of your country whereas one on the Sierra Leonean side remains a complete eyesore to Sierra Leone.
Once more,Taylor did not win because people wanted him.He won because people feared that failure to elect this power-hungry guy could have plunged the society in more anarchy
Mansaray, I appreciate how you respond to people who disagree with you without insults unlike some others on the forum. However it is quite naive on your part if you say peace existed in Liberia before Charles Taylor's revolution in 1989. It was because I the wickedness of former President Doe that the revolution was so popular.Doe showed violence to Liberia starting with the executions of Ministers in 1980 culminating with the horrors of the failed 1985 invasion to topple him sponsored by Sierra Leone. These are just two of the many reminders which made the Taylor revolution popular. In short Charles Taylor is still loved by a good majority of the population. If he is acquitted you will see the jubilations in the streets of Liberia.

Even satan has got supporters. Those that will jubilate for Taylor are those who belong to the same castle or empire.I'm glad you used the word "if" and not like sometimes when you say "he will be freed",with a confidence.I'll never and ever used the word"if"for Taylor.Taylor will surely die in jail. It's better for him to start planing his escape, otherwise, a men!
Vandi, my recommendation to you is to follow the trial. I can’t engage you if you are only relying on a summary from what you read on this site. The context in which Taylor used the word RACISM is broader than what you portrayed it to be. You would have to listen or read the entire transcript to fully understand what Taylor was refereeing to when he used the word RACISM. A good example of your conclusion of RACISM in this context is like criticizing a book without fully reading the entire book. You take a word from the cover and run with it.
Just to enlighten you a bit. The persecution case against Taylor is based on lies; deceits and misleading. Those Taylor haters that are following the trial, most of them are being bitten by mosquitoes. They now have malaria. They are sick, the case is going against the persecution.
You are right, the two Axes of evil Nations, Guinea and Sierra Leone went MAD and harbored LURD and ULIMO to bring wanton violence on the peace loving people of Liberia. Taylor had all rights to protect his people from any outside invasion. President George Bush doctrine is, fight them there so you wouldn’t have to fight them at home. If I was the President of Liberia I was going ZAP Sierra Leone and Guinea my any means necessary for aiding and abetting LURD and ULIMO to use their territory to attack my Country.
In your comment you wrote, “Even a newly born baby in Liberia and neighboring countries would agree that the name Charles Taylor is much more synonymous with mayhem than those G.V Kromah and Damate Corneh-leader of ULIMO and LURD respectively” TOTAL NONSENSE! Where are you getting your statistics from? Are you sure you are a Liberian? The last time I checked the Liberia people loves their Ghankay. When Taylor gets free (I used the word when and not if) and he choices to run in the 2011 presidential election he’s going to win hands down.
Quite an interesting male/female traumatised being."If I was the President of Liberia I was going ZAP Sierra Leone and Guinea my any means necessary for aiding and abetting LURD and ULIMO to use their territory to attack my country" Well, rest assure that one day it'll happen amongst the three countries.Whether it takes a century or decades, there'll be a payback because our generations to come will be taught about the history of the Mano River Union.
You can start your plans now so you meet up to that time. And I'll assure you to my bone headedness, that Rwanda will not march the records.Rwanda and Kosovo will be in the hundred position when it is ended and counted. We love our neighbours, but never dream to make that mistake anymore, even a mistake on a border patrol that a Sierra Leonean or Guinean is hurt or murdered. The response will be deep.Just eat and sleep or you go to the Zota center in Logan Town and dine on your usual recipe.
It might happened in not a too long distance future. But sad, some of us know some good friends now, who're rightly headind the Defense Ministry in Monrovia, taking them on a surprise will question the friendship that we had while on training abroad. We'll wait for your dear Taylor whom you predict can win any elections in Liberia.Peace be with you forever. And I'll pray for the Almighty God to change your heart to become a politician(if you're not one) that will contest Elections in Liberia and win.So we can see your days to "ZAP Sierra Leone or Guinea".
You don't have to be President before you do it.You can use your huge cash on those idle boys in Monrovia or in the country. They can easily "ZAP"poor Sierra Leone and Guinea as you claim.Zota, your words reminds me of your own soap dish.Just study your own soap dish and tell me on this site of your observation. I know LURD and ULIMO crippled your man's chances of building in his Empire in the Mano River basin or the sub-region.He can try another jail break in the Hague. He can influence some of his Dutch friends to make a way for him-BANDITS!
TO:ZOTA
I think I have more access to the international media than you, master. You are just this loud-mouthed bully without any viable knowledge of defending Taylor and his deceitful concepts. You know for sure that before the only creator of the peace of land on which Liberia is built that Taylor won't survive his present ordeal. Why did Taylor attempt to escape arrest on two separate occasions,viz,4th June 2003 at the peace taklks in Ghana and while in Nigeria awaiting hie turn-over to Ellen for onward referral to the court?Your tongue as your thought look feeble to defend this killer disease, boy.
Vendi, you have nothing but misinformation, disinformation in your comment. I think you were one of those Sierra Leoneans persecution witnesses who were paid to go to The Hague to concoct lies.
FACT CHECKS: 4th July 2003 Taylor did not escape an arrest. Taylor went to Ghana on a peace talk. The peace talk was about the two Axes of evil nations (Sierra Leone and Guinea) harboring terrorists to invade Liberia. Your colonial MASTER GB along with the US indicted him while he was attending this peace talk. The President of Ghana, South Africa, Nigeria among other presidents were piss off with your colonial MASTERS for indicting Taylor while he was attending this peace talk. As a result, the president of Ghana, Kufo gives Taylor his private jet with military escort to bring him back to Liberia. Taylor was jubilantly welcome home by his people. They line up by the road side from Roberts International airport to Monrovia waving tree branches.
Taylor did not escape from Nigeria, Ellen told a lie to the Liberian people that she did not asked president Obasanjo for Taylor to be turn over to your kangaroo court. The Special Court of Sierra Leone. (SCSL). Obasanjo was mad with Ellen for lying. So he gives Taylor a Range Rover with some money and told Taylor to Ride on. By then, Obasanjo was in the USA wanting to meet with George Bush. Bush refused to meet with him unless he (Obasanjo) turned over Taylor. It was at this time Obasanjo ordered his men to arrest Taylor. Bush promised Obasanjo that America will support him to run for the third term, which was unconstitutional if he (Obasanjo) turns over Taylor. Long story short, Taylor was arrested and turned over to the kangaroo court and the US never supported Obasanjo to run for the third term.
The first batch of RUF was not trained by the NPFL. Evidence in front of the court in The Hague showed that the first group of RUF fighters was trained by ECOMO at Rick Institute, Virginia, Liberia.
Taylor came through the Ivory Coast in December of ’89’ to lunch an attacked on Liberia. But there is a difference, Ivory Coast did not harbor, aided nor abetted the NPFL, it was a clandestine operation. The Ivorian government was not aware of Taylor movements. Taylor used the remote part of the border between Liberia and the Ivory Coast to entered Liberia. Unlike Guinea and Sierra Leone (Axis of evils) harbored, aided and abetted LURD and ULIMO to lunched wanton violence on the peace loving people of Liberia.
Yandaboy60, Vendi is a Sierra Leonean.
Consequently, you guys have your lies compacted along with the persecution misleading the public, and you have the audacity to write indicating that you have more access to the international media. TOTAL NONSENESS!
BYE Mr.! if you want to engage me go and do your home work. Until then, see ya!
Look here,Zota or whatever your name may be.
Taylor is sick in the brain. His is a personality disorder,namelÿ,"anti-social personality disorder"-the victim of which disorder is this psychopath who never expresses remorse for a wrong doing. When has Taylor ever been out to seek the mercy of the peace-loving people of Liberia? Not at a point in time.Haven killed Liberians in their thousands and subjected many others to some of the worst humiliations, all Taylor could see fitting to do was to seek the Liberian presidency. When rewarded with said authority,he appeared so power-drunk,not realising that even the most precious asset in him-the life,is never eternal. He must have underestimated the conditional clause at the end of article 61 of your constitution.
Those African leaders at the peace talks in Ghana on June 4 2003 had every understanding that Taylor was a democratically elected president of Liberia. As such,he was entitled to a presidential immunity provided in article 61 of the Liberian constitution.Perhaps it was in keeping with said understanding that Taylor could not be arrested by the Ghanaian authority and subsequently turned over to the special court for Sierra Leone.Another reason for which those leaders did not encourage his arrest then was fear of a heightened insecurity in Monrovia.Remember,Taylor had his militia( the papay's chickens as said militia boys were usually called) all over Monrovia. What would have happenened to bussinesses and social institutions in Monrovia had Taylor been arrested as planned on the 4th of June 2004?
If indeed Taylor earlier believed he is innocent of all else alleged against him,why did he not turn himself over? But what was he doing at the Nigeria-Cameroun border at the time he was picked up and flown to Liberia before he was arrested and sent to Sierra Leone?Did you not follow that development? Let me tell you one thing,my good friend.Liberia has made history in Africa long before Taylor was born.Any person attempting to tamper with that history must find himself in a deep quagmire.Such is the case with Taylor. Here is someone whose only escape root was the Atlantic Ocean. He never really wanted to seek santuary in Nigeria. He knew Obansanjo could not secure him (Taylor)there. But then the US had a fleet of two amphibian shpis and a carrier patroling the Liberian territorial waters. His story could not end like that of the late James Edward Roye.Instead,Taylor had to go to where he could be easily sent back to Liberia and be arrested to face justice.
Whether you like it or not,it has happened and I believe others have gained a lot from this.
Listen to me Vamuma1997,I hoe you are not Vamuma Sheriff, the prescution liar witness. You partly proved my point. I hope your brother Vendi reads your comment. Thanks for applying that it was wrong to indict and affect an arrest while Taylor was in Ghana talking peace. Kudos to those brave African leaders for opposing the will of America and Great Briton, if those leaders haven’t used their better judgments not to succumb to US and GB and arrest Taylor, it would have being the darkest day for Africa. America along with GB went into Iraq and killed hundred thousands of women, children and the elderly without any justifiable reason, were Bush or Blair indicted for crime against humanity? Africa needs to wake up and smell the coffee. The WEST is not in our interest. I am not suggesting that its alright for African leaders to kill his/her people without punitive. But we don't need the WEST to come to our rescue beacuse thay want to take our resources.
Taylor was NEVER giving a chance after he won the election with over 75% of the votes. During Taylor’s inauguration while taking the oath of office fighting was going on in Lofa. ULIMO was using Sierra Leone as its base to battle Taylor for control of Lofa. Taylor NEVER had complete control of Lofa from the get go and up to the end of his presidency. Evidence in front of the court in The Hague, showed on many occasions Taylor made earnest and urgent request to the UN for a UN border patrol between Sierra Leone and Liberia due to the numerous hit and run tactics used by ULIMO from in and out of Sierra Leone. But to no avail. Arms embargo was placed on Liberia; to the contrary ULIMO and LURD were armed to their teeth. Because of the double standards by the UN, ECOWAS were obliged to grant Liberia the right to purchase arms to defend herself from those terrorists that occupied Lofa and were using Guinea and Sierra Leone as their base. The defense team had put into evidence a letter from ECOWAS granting Liberia the right to buy arms. Don’t be fool, this case is political. America and Great Briton doesn’t give a hick about Africa. The only time they will show interest is when they can exploit our resources. For examples, if GB had any affection and concerned for the people of Sierra Leone they would have deplored the Executive outcome in Freetown where the atrocities were taking place. Instead, they were deplored in Kono the diamond rich area to protect the diamonds from getting into the wrong hands. Also, look what is going on in the Darfur, if America and GB really want to put a halt to the killing they can do so in a heart beat. Unfortunately, this will never happen because America and GB don’t have any economy interest in that part of Sudan.
Taylor is a Nationalist; he stood up to the powerful WEST and despite his incarceration he is still standing up. Taylor is standing up now, so we would be able to sit down tomorrow. Africa needs more Taylors and more Kaddafis. The WEST has supported worst dictator than Taylor, but for a dictator to remain in power he must be a puppet to the WEST. Taylor was not a bad president, but the WEST made a bad president out of him. He was NEVER given a chance to lead his country. ULIMO and LURD supported by the WEST via Sierra Leone and Guinea tormented his presidency from the start to the end.
ZOTA,you got it wrong. The name of the court that is trying Ghankay Taylor is"The UN backed Special Court for Sierra Leone. That goes to say that the court is actually established in Sierra Leone but it is backed by the United Nations. That being the fact, said court must be one backed by all member nations to the UN including even Liberia-a fouonding member of this world body. Why single out the Great Britain and the US in this affair?
Vandi, I don't know if you are a Sierra Leonean or Liberian, but I want to hammer this into your head, Taylor had all rights to attack or support a war in Sierra Leone. Reasons is that Sierra Leone was used to invade Liberia in 1985 by Quiwonkpa. That invasion led to the feud between the Krahns and Gio. It did not stop there, Ex-Doe soldiers seeking refuge in Sierra Leone organized themselves with the acquiesced of the Sierra Leonean government. What did you expect Taylor to do, stand by while Sierra Leone as a door to kill and destroy Liberia and do nothing. Why do you think America attacked Afganistan? Because Aqaeda that reign terror on innocent American lives were headquartered there.
So,finally the truth is emerging that Taylor indeed supported the war in Sierra Leone but that he did so on an established basis?
Wel,he should defend that rationale. But I think history unveils that Kwonkpah and his men fought seriously on the Sierra Leonean side of the Mano River Union bridge before finally crossing to Bo Waterside in 1985. That was a clear indication that these men entered Liberia just the same way Taylor's NPFL entered Liberia through the Ivory Coast in December 1989.
Bear in mind, however, that the first batch of 350 RUF fighters were all trained in Liberia, apparently in NPFL controlled areas. In addition to that, those Liberian refugees who fled Gissiwolo,Gbaah and nearby villages in the Makpele chiefdom in Pujehun district of Sierra Leone would agree that three NPFL fighters were cought right at the start of the Moalah-Ferry-about 12 miles from Potoru. Those three fighters were killed by military men of the Sierra Leone Army right at the crossing point with their bodies left to decay by a nearby stream.
Taylor's plan had been to become an emperor.Unfortunately, his dream seems unending. So you keep telling people that Taylor will come back to take you to Artinton
Wow! Charlie crying racism? That’s new!! I guess if tyranny is a race, then you can call me a racist too. Hey Charlie, you’re not a victim of anything. You’re a criminal. The African continent is replete with gangsters like you, and that’s why almost every country on that continent has regressed for decades. I applaud Western nations for stepping in and trying to save us from ourselves. Charlie, you should applaud them for giving you the chance to tell your stories [or your lies]. Hundreds of thousands of Liberians and Sierra Leoneans died and thousands are living with severed limbs, as a direct result of your criminal activities in West Africa. They were not given the same chance that you are now—to sit in that courtroom and cry foul. I think your sense of reality is somehow distorted. You truly believe that you should still be in Monrovia with your henchmen, driving your Hummers and Mercedes Benzes. I’m glad you’re still thinking that way because it will hit you very hard when that prison door slams shut.
Racism??? Of all the stupidest things you’ve said, this one stands out. I wish that when you are convicted, the court sentences you to Liberian Street Justice. You owe us the right to beat you like market dog.
All those individuals that are today been portrayed by Taylor as less or uneducated people, were all once part of the so-called dignified administration of Taylor in Liberia,as his block-headed admirers suggest. I did not see that part in the UN charter.Do one has to be educated when you stand as a witness in any court in the Hague?Taylor's propounded education threat on some of his Liberian counterparts, sounds funny to me.
With the level of edcation that Moses Blah had and the way he stired the affairs of Liberia when Professor Taylor was out,I think Liberians need to give Blah some flowers for his excellent duty in the Killer's Rooms of the Executive Mansion.Taylor,if you check the list of educated Nimbanians in Liberia and the diaspora,I think the numbers will overcome those of the Kongors.
ttahs, why are you turning this discussion into Congos and Nimbanians, Taylor spoke directly about Moses Blah, not the people of Nimba. If Moses Blah is illiterate there are many Congo people that are also illiterate. You are speaking from the two sides of your mouth. One side is speaking unity, while the other side is speaking hate. I hope you are not a wolf in sheep clothing. Liberians are doing their best to do away with tribalism, sectionalism and the rest of the things that divides us, but its sad that you are igniting the fire of tribalism. It is disingenuous for anybody to connect someone's opinion about a specific person to a group of people. That’s generalization, its wrong. It is time to stop the bigotry and stop the uprising amongst our people. Country or Congo we all have the same equal entitlement to Liberia.
Well, I'm not trying to ignite a fire but I'm guiding you to know that by you degrading yourself for a long time by calling yourself as "native of country man",is wrong. You started it and we're following your footsteps of the usage of this names. If I tell you that, there're more Educated Krus than Lormas, would you accept my point?Don't follow my point but go on the survey and see.
All Africa.com,do have the best and trained journalists.Comments that are xenophobia in nature will always be deleted. My comment goes as a competition,if you wish.I don't regret words that I say to people.Hang on!
Your comment is broad and contradicting no different from the persecution witnesses.
That's why we're there to nail your man to the latest electrical pole."Bee fullishy geoe shia kokoyai-nah.Yai-na, alai jaih-ma,ee emuah fufuhun".
You boy go sit down and eat some kola nuts and drink peanuts soup. You got issues, you are writing colloquial (crap)that only you and your kinsmen can understand. BYE!
Ask me and I'll translate for you.I'm free to write wordings in my dialet or dialets of my country. You don't know your position,so you knows nothing to write."Nyaree"

Prosecutors told Charles Taylor that he had "reason to lie" during his four months of testimony which he had spent rebutting charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity for his alleged role in crimes during Sierra Leone's brutal conflict — and that he needed to prepare to be "honest" in cross-examination, which started today in The Hague.

In his piece entitled “ White Collar War Crimes, Black African Fall Guys,”
investigative journalist Keith Snow writes:
First note that the ICC can now be viewed as a tool of hegemonic U.S. foreign policy,
where the weapons deployed by the U.S. and its allies include the accusations of, and
indictments for, human rights violations, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
To understand this, we can ask WHY NO WHITE MAN HAS YET BEEN CHARGED
with these or other offenses at the ICC (International Criminal Court) which now holds
five black African warlords and seeks to incarcerate and bring to trial another black man,
also an Arab, Omar Bashir.
Why hasn’t George W. Bush been indicted ? Or what about Donald Rumsfeld ?
Dick Cheney? Henry Kissinger? Ehud Olmert? Tony Blair?
The sad fact is that the International Criminal Court has become terribly
politicized, as has the entire international justice apparatus.
The ICC has issued indictments, for the first time in history, against a sitting head of
state. Meanwhile, according to Snow, an Israeli weapons dealer, also a reputed Mossad
operative, is revealed to be shipping weapons into Sudan with Pentagon support.
And Belgium changed its law rather than prosecute Ariel Sharon for war crimes.
The double standard cries out to us.
One country in the West, however, increasingly stands out as a place where
justice can be found?and that is Spain. With its landmark indictment of
Pinochet and its current consideration of Israeli war crimes in Lebanon and
U.S. torture in Guantanamo, we increasingly look to the Spanish Courts with
hope. It was the Spanish courts that returned indictments against Rwandan
soldiers for genocide even as the world coddles U.S. proxy Rwanda and its
leader, Paul Kagame.

Dear "Uplift", You're finally writing some sensical sentences, thank goodness. Remember that racism is racism, it doesn't just apply to whites. If you hate whites because they're white, you qualify as a racist: the same gang as whites hating black because they're black (of anything else).
HAHAHA.. The beginning of the cross examination was really funny. Brenda Hollis is not a match for taylor. i could see the smile in taylor´s lawyer face.. Taylor smartly responded to her , and even told her how to ask the questions. The OTP is not ready to take taylor down as they said.
Hello Senior Associates of Taylor, Do you really think the focus will be on Taylor’s letter to Bush?If Taylor ever wrote to Bush, the content of said letter was only limited to Liberian politics and not the matter for which Taylor is being held on trial in The Netherlands.
Remember,Taylor has already succumbed that “he was duped”by Obasanjo to abandone article 61 of the Liberian consititution-a provision which Taylor misconceived hence abused quite entirely while in power. Those empty praises are never even mistakenly likely to take Taylor anywhere. Some of us began hearing such praises being heaped on Taylor when we were mere kids.Same praises were again heard when Taylor abandoned the June 4 2003 peace talks in Ghana.Infact, who else among you associates of Taylor ever imagined Taylor could be arrested?
So,let’s really wait and see.Truly, the end often tells the means.
I agree that the letter is not important. But you have to write the OTP and tell them.
What is going on with the prosecution team? After a month of listening to Taylor testimony, they failed to commence their cross examination of mr taylor. Just for the first 30 minutes, B hollis got the shock that sent the prosecution back to their office to replan for monday.
When it comes to public oratory, the like of former Liberian president , Charles Taylor, is one of a kind. I still remember how some of my compatriot in Sierra leone were mesmerized by Mr Taylor during our civil war. I was often frustrated when i heard people talking about how good Mr Taylor was in his exchanges with BBC journalists. He appears to be doing the same at this trial. The prosecution should not fall for that. Present the hard facts that you have. Do not give him any more public forum. He has enough of it already. Ibrahim Jalloh aka BJ
There is some element of truth in what this guy is saying as it corroborates with what he's being saying and what we know. I not a supporter of Charles Taylor, however his case is a devil you know. Obasanjo is capable of all his claims against him. We've seen US and UK adventure of selfish exploitation all over the world, while they undermine and underdevelop affrica to enable them cart away the wealth of African people. Taylor has indeed exposed their wicked plans and exploit and power control while they chant democrasy. Oh what hypocrits.
