On December 3, the African Development Forum 2000 opened at the headquarters
of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in the Ethiopian captial, Addis Ababa, under the theme "AIDS -- The
Greatest Leadership Challenge". The meeting was organized by the ECA in
conjunction with UNAIDS and other co-sponsors, and aimed to serve as a
launch pad for more concerted action against HIV/AIDS in Africa.
