| The first round of the presidential election which was to sweep the NDC from power was held on December 7, 2000. Adjei Mensah Charway, 45, an airport hire car driver, gave Yaa Elizabeth Baah, a 29 year old hairdresser and housekeeper, a lift to the polling station. Both are holding up their new-style picture ID cards - the subject of considerable debate and a last minute high court hearing over whether people with only the older, picture-less ID cards should be allowed to vote. Eventually, they were permitted to do so. |
