TED - the annual conference on Technology, Entertainment, and Design - had a global meeting in Arusha, Tanzania this June. According to Emeka Okafor (left), the event's program director, the global conference brought together about 100 "creative, resourceful types" to discuss and work on crucial development issues facing the continent.

AllAfrica's Tamela Hultman previewed the event and Global Voices Online's Ethan Zuckerman blogged the conference as it happened.

The opening day of TED Global was a full one. The morning session included a heated debate between Ugandan jounalist and Stanford University fellow Andrew Mwenda (right) and celebrity activist Bono, while the afternoon session featured clips from Nigerian filmmaker Newton Aduaka.

Day three of TED brought together innovators and scientists working on solutions to African problems. Bola Olabisi (right) introduced the work of African female inventors, and Lisa Goldman discussed tools to fight malaria.
