Health officials in Chad worry that there is a risk that HIV/Aids might
spread faster than it once did because of conflict. This strife is
equally threatening programs that were already in place. But medical
professionals say that despite these challenges, progress can be—and
was being—made against the disease.

care workers, and other factors. In Malawi, a woman has a one-in-18
lifetime risk of dying in childbirth. There are calls for the world to
more fairly share its resources and live up to pledges made decades ago
for more universal health care coverage.
