Zimbabwe's Poll - Free or Unfair?

Welcome to allAfrica.com's debate on the conduct of Zimbabwe's election, its results and its fall-out.

Some media coverage, and some comments by African and international leaders, have given the impression that there is a rift between Africans and the West over Zimbabwe.

On one side, it is said that Africans have chosen to highlight solidarity against ex-colonial powers and downplay scrutiny of anti-democratic and repressive tactics by the Zanu-PF government.

On the other, it is said that the rich, white nations and their institutions have not broken with the colonial past and still seek to impose their will on Africa.

For yet others - whether African or otherwise - both views are a caricature; if the election was stolen then they intend to say so loud and clear, without fear of giving support to Africa's enemies.

What's your view?

Did Zanu-PF win fair and square or are they guilty of gross intimidation and manipulation?

Did the MDC lose because of failings in its programme, or because they were victims of a repressive regime?

Did British and U.S.sanctions polarise the situation and inadvertently strengthen Robert Mugabe's hand?

And how will the Zimbabwe crisis impact on plans for the African Union and the New Partnership for Africa's Development, Nepad, only months before the G8 nations meet to consider what support they will give to Africa's transformation?
