West Africa: Inspector Bediako Targets West Africa

The Independent (Accra)

Accra — The ever popular "Inspector Bediako", Ghana's only detective series, is on the move. He made a hit on the Nigerian screens and has in fact made more impact in Nigeria than it did in Ghana.

The b36 detective series started showing on GTV in 1994 and continued to 1997 with occasional breaks. The concept of the whole idea was born by Mr Kojo Yankah, but somewhere along the line there were some stories from writers across the country. However, this local production has now aimed at the West African market and is so far doing quite well. And this is quite a commendable idea. Mrs Naana Mensah of Dateline Production, the producer of the detective series, confirmed that the story had been sold to a Nigerian National TV, The Africa Independent, and has been showing in Nigeria since last year. She went on to disclose that they intended to hit the Gambian and Sierra Leonean markets very soon and that a French title was to be given to the film to enable it be shown in Burkina Faso and other French speaking countries.
