Kampala — The Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners' Council has suspended Marie Stopes Uganda for allegedly administering abortions. The council said in a press release, that Marie Stopes was suspended from carrying out medical activities to "protect society from abuse of medical and dental care."
"Council has taken this decision in the public interest and the general public will be informed in due course on the final outcome of this matter," the release dated April 30, 1999 said. Council officials declined to disclose the problem over which Marie Stopes was suspended.
