Addis Ababa — Reports coming from Djibouti and Dire Dawa indicate that the amount of cargo moving between Ethiopia's Dire Dawa town and Djibouti is on the increase. In the last eight months about 180, 000 Metric Tons of Cargo has moved from Djibouti to Dire Dawa. Compared to the same period last year, this is an increase of 20 per cent.
Since Djibouti became the primary port for Ethiopia's imports, the Ethio-Djibouti railway has been playing a very important role in transporting fuel, fertilizer, food items and machinery. Exports to Djibouti include coffee, chat, oil seeds, fruits and vegetables.
