Zambians living in Lesotho dissociate themselves from presidential fund story

Lusaka — Zambians living in Lesotho dissociate themselves from presidential fund story Chairman of the Association of Zambians Living in Lesotho (AZALES) has disassociated the association from recent outbursts by the secretary that President Frederick Chiluba should halt the donations from the presidential slush fund.

AZALES chairperson, Professor J.W. Ngambi in a letter dated October 11, 1999, to the Zambian High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa, said the Zambians living in Lesotho never met to discuss matters pertaining to the presidential discretionary fund and any other political issue and that the man was an impostor. "Our association is a non-political, non tribal, non racial and non religious organisation. Its main purpose is the promotion of the general welfare of Zambians living in Lesotho. In any case, it is not our business here to issue irresponsible statements of opinion on events happening back home, of which we may not have sufficient information," said Ngambi.

Last month Michael Chali said from Maseru in Lesotho that President Chiluba should halt donations to level the political ground. The article appeared in The Post of September 13, 1999.
