Kampala — Nabbingo Parish Priest, Fr. Achilles Mayanja has urged Catholics not to engage in debate over the alleged papal remarks that only Catholics would enter heaven.
Mayanja was speaking at the parish youth jubilee day celebrations at Kyengera near Kampala. He said Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala would soon make an official statement on the matter if necessary.
Mayanja said, "We are not certain that the Pope made the remarks. You know these journalists. They may have misquoted him."
"Our theology is so intricate that taking only one verse just puts the entire message out of context. Don't debate this issue until you are certain what the Holy Father said. As you know, he is infallible," he said.
Earlier, during mass, the Lubaga Deanery youth chaplain Fr. W. Kkonde urged the youth not to desert the Catholic Church because it has the true faith.
