Washington, D.C. — One of the greatest distance runners of all time, he rose to prominence by winning the world junior championships in 1992. In May 1995 he broke Moses Kiptanui's world record in the two-mile race and then, a week later, broke the world record in the 10k race with a time of 26:43:53. He won gold for the 5k and 10k races at the Atlanta Olympics. He is considering entering the marathon in Sydney.
