Southern Africa: Gigantic Scheme Mooted To Bring Water From Congo

Johannesburg — As the Southern African Development Community begins a study into the possibility of diverting water from the Congo River to alleviate water shortages in the thirsty south, a group of Congolese businessman are launching their own version of the plan.

The plan was mooted at the SADC summit in Windhoek in August (SouthScan v15/16) but already concerns are being raised about the massive costs involved and the feasibility of crossing several war zones.
