Mauritius/South Africa: CAN 2002 Qualifier: Mauritius 1 South Africa 1

Port Louis, Mauritius — Mauritius Saturday held South Africa to a 1-1 draw in their Group Two qualifying match for the African Nations Cup (Mali 2002), played at the Anjalay Stadium in northern Mauritius.

South Africa got the first goal through Delron Buckley in the 43rd minute when the Mauritian defender Sylvain Content cleared timidly allowing the ball into his own net to end the first-half at 1-0.

Striker Tony Francois scored from the penalty spot after a South African defender handled the ball, for the Mauritian equaliser in the second half.

South Africa now has seven points from three matches, leaving Mauritius with one point for the same number of games.

Both teams play the return leg 24 March in South Africa.
