Kenya: Clergymen Charged With Rape, Abduction

Nairobi — Four clergymen were yesterday charged in Nairobi with abducting and defiling a 14-year-old girl.

Self-proclaimed Bishop Eliezer Kimani and pastors Dennis Nyakabi Basweti, Jackson Pithon Mwangi and Joram Kanyinge all of the Kariobangi-based Gospel Church of God were released on a personal bond of Sh20,000 each and sureties in the same amount.

The case, heard in Makadara, will be mentioned on February 1.

The four were charged with abducting a Standard Five drop-out between March 1999 and January 16 this year at the Kariobangi Light Industries.

They faced another charge of defiling the girl and intending to marry her without her consent and against her mother's will.

The girl is said to have been initiated into a cult before being abducted.
