African Champions League: Berger 5 Ela Nguema 0

Lagos, Nigeria — Nigeria's flagbearer in the African Champions League, Julius Berger FC of Lagos, beat visiting Ela Nguema of Equatorial Guinea 5-0 in their opening match of the competition at the M.K.O. Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, near Lagos, Saturday.

Two of the goals were scored in the first half while the remaining were netted in the second.

Abiodun Segun opened scoring in the 20th minute while Ishola Shuaibu made it two in the 40th.

Ogbemudia Aikhionabara (48th), Isiaka Iliyasu (65th) and Francis Okolo (90th), completed the rout.

Ela Nguema's captain, Micha Juan, was sent off after he led his team in protest against Berger's second goal, on the ground that it was offside.

Berger is making its second attempt at winning the competition, never before lifted by any Nigerian clubside.
