Lusaka — President Frederick Chiluba has requested for prayers from America's tele-evangelist Benny Hinn for the success of his third term bid, disclosed Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) chief executive officer and president, Dr. Paul Crouch on Friday.

Appearing on TBN's Tele Thon programme on Friday morning, Crouch appealed to his American audience to pray for the success of President Chiluba's third term bid. According to International Fellowship of Christian Churches president Bishop Simon Chihana who watched the programme, Crouch revealed that President Chiluba had phoned Pastor Hinn informing him of his third term bid.

"This morning at about 05:00 hours, Zambia televised Dr. Paul Crouch, the chief executive officer and President of TBN," Bishop Chihana said on Friday in an interview.

"Dr. Crouch in his presentation appealed to his audience to pray for President Chiluba of Zambia.

He said President Chiluba called Pastor Benny Hinn on phone asking for prayer because he is running for presidency for third term but had great forces of opposition against his bid." Bishop Chihana said he had personally watched the programme though it was discontinued. "I watched that at the time I was having my morning devotion," he said.

"And in the audience, there was also another prominent American preacher John Hagee with his wife." Bishop Chihana said he later phoned TBN Zambia around 13:00 hours on Friday to find out if they would again show the programme as it was withdrawn earlier in the day. "The receptionist at TBN replied saying they had taken off the programme and won't show it again for security reasons," he said.

Bishop Chihana said Crouch also thanked President Chiluba for assisting in the setting up of TBN in Zambia.
