Zimbabwe: League Put Off for Warriors

Harare — The Premier League in Zimbabwe has been suspended to allow the national team, the Warriors, enough time to prepare for the World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Johannesburg on May 5.

Coach Misheck Marimo made the request to the Football Association in order to have all the players in camp. ZIFA said they wanted to give Marimo all the support possible to enhance the Warriors chances to qualify for the World Cup finals.

This weekend will now be free for the Warriors to play a friendly against a Premier League Select at the Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

One of the games cancelled was the grudge match between Dynamos and Highlanders which was scheduled for Barbourfields Stadium. Both sides provide the bulk of the players in the national team.

The league will resume after the Warriors return from Johannesburg. South Africa lead the Group E table with nine points and are followed by the Warriors with six.
