Lusaka — Preparations for Zambia's World Cup qualifier against Togo in Lome on Sunday are not going according to plan, but the side will have three top players for the match in their unsuccessful campaign.
With only four points in the group, in which Cameroon have a hundred percent record, Zambia have an unrealistic chance of qualifying for the finals in South Korea and Japan next year. However, the Football Association of Zambia have invited some foreign-based players to strengthen the side.
It is a decision which some in Zambia believe is unnecessary with the slim qualifying hopes. But the FAZ defended its decision saying the squad has to continue its build up for future games.
Dutch coach, Jan Brouwer, meanwhile, has been grappling with problems involving preparation of the team. Brouwer said lack of a training ground means he will have only three days of practice before the squad leaves for Lome.
There was also some confusion on the date the team should travel and where German-based players Moses Sichone and Andrew Sinkala will join the contingent. Harry Miulanzi, who plays for Mexican second division, Correcaminos is the third foreign-based invited to the side.
The FAZ have been criticised for inviting the players with a top club official calling it "a waste of resources". FAZ acting secretary-general, Machacha Shepande reacted: "We have a chance in the African Nations Cup qualifiers and this could be one of the ways we could prepare."
