Kenya: More Reject Kaiser Death Probe Report

More clergymen rejected the Fr Kaiser death probe report yesterday.

The Justice and Peace Commission of the Holy Family Basilica said the FBI's suicide verdict was "unprofessional".

The commission's chairman, Mr Joseph Gitau and the priest in charge of the Holy Family Basilica, the Rev Emmanuel Ngugi, said: "The autopsy conducted by Dr Ling Kituyi found that the gun that killed him was fired from a distance of about three feet, indicating that he was shot."

The FBI report released on April 19 concluded that the priest committed suicide.

Last week, 26 bishops demanded a public inquest into the American priest's death, saying the FBI report had raised many questions.

The bishops asked why no ballistics report had been presented to back up the findings. They also pointed out that the report quoted a pathologist as stating that bloody finger marks were found inside the priest's trousers pocket.

Yesterday, the commission said: "It is unfortunate that after 36 years of evangelical work in Kenya, nobody had noticed Fr Kaiser's mental instability referred to in the FBI report."
