Kenya: Latecomers Cause Uproar in Intriguing Kenyan League

Nairobi — The Kenyan Football Federation has taken a dramatic decision to admit two clubs in the first division weeks after the new season has gathered steam.

Brooke Bond and Telkom were relegated at the end of last season, but the two sides will celebrate a late start to the season thanks to a review of their protests from the previous championship.

The KFF say the clubs were victims of a flawed arbitration, who studied appeals and protests last season and could have deducted valid points that led to the relegation.

An injunction forced the league to be suspended last weekend, as Reunion continue to fight against relegation last season in attempt to increase the current line up in the Premier Division to 21 clubs. In fact, Eldoret FC could be club no.22 this week for similar reasons.

But action resumed at the weekend with AFC Leopards ending Mathare United's unbeaten run 2-1 on Sunday at the Nyayo Stadium.

Mumias Sugar lead the league by one point ahead of Oserian Fastatc. Mumias beat Ulinzi 4-0 with a hat-trick by the league's top scorer with 11 goals Mark Sirengo, while Fastac were held 1-1 by Nzoia Sugar.

Latecomers, Brooke Bond and Telkom had mixed results. Telkom have four points with a narrow 1-0 win over Shabana. Brooke Bond were defeated by Red Berets 2-1.

After a good start, Coast Stars lost their third match in a row with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of champions Tusker. To rub salt to Coast Stars' injury, their top striker Vincent Tendwa has been suspended by the KFF for signing for three clubs.

Tendwa signed for Shabana from AFC Leopards, but according to the KFF he did not follow the proper procedure. He then joined Tanzania's Yanga without an official release from Shabana.
