Burundi: Rebels Kill 10 in Bus Ambush

Ten people travelling in a public vehicle in Bubanza province, northwestern Burundi, were killed during a rebel ambush in Mitakataka some nine km from the provincial headquarter, Burundi radio reported on Thursday. Four people were injured, including two children. The wounded were admitted to nearby Bubanza Hospital. News reports differed as to which group had carried out the attack, though the Forces pour la defense de la democratie (FDD) or the Forces nationales pour la liberation (FNL) were named as the primary suspects. These are the two main ethnic Hutu rebel groups fighting the country's Tutsi-led army and government, and refused to sign a peace accord in Arusha, Tanzania last year.
