Ethiopia: Japan Constructs Primary School At Darge, Gurage Zone

Addis Ababa — The inaugurating of a first cycle primary school, whose construction and furnishing was financially supported by the Government of Japan, took place at Darge, Gurage Zone, on 22 June 2001, according to a press release from the embassy received yesterday.

The Government of Japan provided for US$40,400 to Aberash Worku Child Care Centre, a local NGO, for this purpose eight months ago.

Mr. Yoshimasa Tezuka, charge d'affaires of the Embassy of Japan, in his message sent to the occasion, stated that the he was quite impressed by the vigor and enthusiasm of all the stakeholders involved in the construction of the school.

The Japanese Government introduced a scheme known as Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) some twelve years ago to support financially the self-reliant efforts of people to change their situation.
