Kenya: Moi Criticises Faction Leaders

President Daniel arap Moi of Kenya has announced that he will no longer host Somali faction leaders.

Speaking at the Jomo Kenyatta Airport on his return from the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) summit in Lusaka, Zambia, Moi said the faction leaders were not interested in unity, the Kenyan 'Daily Nation' newspaper reported on Wednesday. He said they were fighting for power while their people were dying from civil strife and poverty.

The paper quoted him as saying, "I will not welcome them to Kenya." The president also warned Somalis living in Kenya to disassociate themselves from political activity in Somalia. A Somali political observer told IRIN that the warning may also target ethnic Somali businessmen in Kenya who are known to be supporters of the various faction leaders.
