The Kasese district movement chairman, Bamusede Bwambale, has warned that unless religious bigotry is checked it may spark off religious wars. "The holier than thou", attitude which some religious organisations have been accused of will one day breed conflict in our society," Bwambale said. He was on Tuesday speaking at the opening of a five-day international conference for religious leaders of the Pentecostal churches in Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Congo and Tanzania. Bwambale told the conference held at Kilembe Recreation Hall that the people of God need to be united and criticised religious leaders who create divisions. "The Government will not tolerate any religious sect that violate the law under the pretext of freedom of worship," he warned. Bwambale regretted the death of over 1,000 innocent people who lost their lives in the name of religion in 1999 at Kanungu. He warned Ugandans against people who start new religions saying they were scandalous and a disgrace to Christianity.
