Uganda: Dentist Wins International Award

Kampala — A Ugandan doctor, Tom Mutyabule, also president of the Uganda Dental Association, has won the IADMFR Research Award 2001. Mutyabule presented his research on Radiography and Radiation Protection in Uganda, Aug. 8 at the 13th Congress of the International Association of Dental Maxillofacial Radiology (IADMFR) in Glasgow, Scotland last week.

Out of the Seven finalists for the prize competition, Mutyabule won the first prize. He received a certificate and a cash prize. Speaking to The Monitor on his return last week, Mutyabule said he was "very humbled" by the award and was grateful to all those who made it possible for him to compete.

Mutyabule is in private practice with Pan Dental Surgery in Kampala and has been appointed a lecturer at Makerere University Dental School. The research was part of his Masters Degree at the University of London, King's College.
