The Ethiopian police on 17 August arrested a British citizen on suspicion of child abuse. The suspect, David Allen, 59, was arrested at Addis Ababa airport, AFP reported on 18 August.
The man reportedly arrived on a flight from Zambia on his way to London, said AFP. The agency quotes a British Foreign Office spokesman as saying: "We understand that he is being held in connection with charges of trafficking in and sexual abuse of children in Ethiopia."
Allen is former delegate in Ethiopia for the Swiss-based aid agency Terre des Hommes, but was dismissed in 1996, said AFP. It quoted a TDH statement as saying that the Ethiopian police were able to arrest Allen "on the basis of the precise information supplied" by the Swiss agency.
