The police Criminal Investigation Division (CID) in Maseru are hunting for an addressee who would be a recipient of a large package of addictive and illegal drugs intercepted by the diamond and drugs section.
The package, according to the CID, was send to one Mary Sandi, bearing the address Lesotho Express Industrial Area Maseru, Lesotho. The parcel containing 10045 drugs of different types was send from Amsterdam In Netherlands. It was transported by TNT delivery express to the neighbouring South Africa's town of Ladybrand where it was collected by Lesotho Express Delivery Service.
The police said the parcel was labeled as formula charge computer racing wheel. A racing wheel is a device used in computer software for playing games. It is installed in the software for playing various racing games. "But it was discovered that a total of ten thousand and forty five different types of drug tablets were concealed in the computer racing wheel," the CID said last week.
The tablets are estimated at a cost of M401 800.
The CID said the addressee Mary Sandi did not turn up to collect the parcel, adding that efforts are being made to trace her. The tablets are currently being tested at the CID forensic headquarters in Maseru to determine their type. Already some of them have been tested as methamphetamine, drugs legally forbidden in the country.
Lesotho Express Delivery Service said in a telephone that the company's manager Roy Nelson would call back the newspaper after consulting with his attorneys. He had not called at the time of going to press.
CID head Assistant Commissioner of Police Mateliso Kumi confirmed that they were on the look-out for the would-be recipient. She wondered how Lesotho's Express Delivery Service based at the Maseru West came into contact with the item. She said this delivery company is also a suspect.
