Ghana: Police to Confiscate Calendars

11 October 2001

Some Ghanaians are quick to produce calendars on disasters when they occur. A case in point was the disastrous floods, which hit Accra during the last rains. The Police Administration had to stop the publication from circulation at the time. The recent attack on New York and Washington has now become a subject for the production of calendars in the country.

The Police have again taken action to stop the production and circulation of the publication through a press release signed by the Director of Public Relations of the service, Mr. Awuni Angwubutoge. It reads: "it has come to the attention of the Police Administration that some calendars bearing the pictures of the aftermath of he dastardly terrorist attack on the twin towers of New York are on sale in the country.

"The Administration would like to appeal to the conscience of the patrons of these calendars to consider the emotional effects that such pictures are likely to cause the relatives of the victims of the attack and stop the sales forthwith.

"The Administration intends to seize any copies of these calendars after this publication and the general public is expected to co-operate in getting rid of them."
