Addis Ababa — The Ethiopia Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amb.
Abdulmejid Hussien, urged the Security Council to impose an arms embargo against Somalia, according to a report filed by the state run Ethiopian News Agency.
At the open debate of the council held last week, Dr. Abdulmejid said "arms have been shipped to Somalia by air and sea making the situation in that country much worse. The uncontrolled arms flow into that country has enabled terrorist organizations to carry out attacks deep inside Ethiopia," he said.
"Some may try to sell the idea that Al-Queda and international terrorist groups are not in Somalia, we disagree," Abdulmejid said.
He said the various terrorist organizations operating in Somalia are part of the same group that make up Al-Queda.
