The daughter of a chief in Trans Mara District has fled their rural home after her father attempted to force her to undergo circumcision three days ago.

The 15-year-old girl slipped from the hands of the would be circumcisers and disappeared from the homestead moments before the operation started.

Speaking at the Kilgoris District Commissioner's office where she had gone to seek protection, the girl said arrangements for the ceremony had been finalised despite her reluctance to undergo the rite.

A shocked DC Fred Mutsami immediately ordered the arrest of the chief, Mr J. Mabari of Ololchani location, Lolgorian division.

"I have asked the police to hunt for the chief and prosecute him for going against a government campaign to stamp out the rite," said Mutsami.

The girl was in position two in her Standard Seven end of year exams, is expected to go to Standard Eight next year at Ololchani Primary School.

She said her father threatened to use force to have her circumcised if she continued to resist.

"I want to continue with my education, which I know will be interrupted if I am circumcised now," she told Mr Mutsami.
