Nigeria: Eagles Sneak Into Lagos; arrive in Trickles

Apparently aware of the disappointment of Nigerian soccer fans over their third place finish at the just concluded African Cup of Nations in Mali, members of the Super Eagles have resorted to sneak into the country in trickles.

P.M.Sports scooped that rather than arrive as a team yesterday, some of the players decided to arrive individually. Four of such players: Taribo West, Victor Agali, Julius Aghahowa and Joseph Yobo arrived Lagos in the early hours of yesterday.

A reliable source who spotted them at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, yesterday, said the quartet arrived a few minutes after 2 a.m aboard an Air Guinea flight.

The reason behind the players' failure to arrive as a team could not be ascertained but it was gathered that other players were expected to arrive Lagos yesterday night and this morning, while some others are said to have departed for their respective bases in Europe.

When contacted, officials of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) at the Lagos liaison office yesterday could not give a definite arrival day and time of other players and officials.

However, it is believed that the unexpected development is a reflection of the indiscipline which has eaten deep into the team. It would be recalled that a greater number of the Super Eagles players shunned the presentation ceremony of the Nations Cup held after the final on Sunday. (ACONS)
