PRESIDENT Olusegun Obasanjo has nominated Dr. Olu Agunloye as minister ahead of what Presidency sources described yesterday as removal of ministers with gubernatorial ambitions.
It could not be immediately confirmed if the expected reshufle would be sweeping.
Dr. Agunloye, until recently, special adviser to the deceased Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Chief Bola Ige was nominated in a letter addressed to the Senate President and read on the Senate floor yesterday.
Dr. Agunloye, who was the first Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), has a doctorate in physics. He hails from Ondo State which already has Dr. Olusegun Agagu, Minister of Power and Steel in the federal cabinet.
Sources said Dr. Agagu who has been much speculated to be interested in the race for the governorship of Ondo State could be on his way out of the cabinet.
Two other ministers, including a female minister, and Sports Minister, Mark Aku were also speculated to be on the list of those likely to be dropped from the federal cabinet.
Other speculations on the imminent shake-up of the federal cabinet were the possible stepping aside of Chief Tony Anenih from the federal cabinet, a move which sources said was to allow the political strategist concentrate on President Obasanjo s re-election campaign in 2003.
