South Africa: Syspro Donates Software for World Summit On Sustainable Development

7 March 2002

Johannesburg — Leading ERP software manufacturer Syspro has donated software to be used for the organisation of the World Summit on Sustainable Development.

The Summit, to be held in Johannesburg in September, will bring together national and international heads of state as well as non-government organisations and the private sector to focus the world's attention on meeting the challenges of sustainable development. Issues to be addressed include improving people's lives and conserving natural resources in the face of the population explosion, with ever-increasing demands for food, water, shelter, sanitation, energy, health services and eco-security.

Sibusiso Thusami, spokesperson for the Johannesburg World Summit Company (JOWSCO), says Syspro's IMPACT Encore solution is ideal for such a major logistical organisation. JOWSCO is managing the logistical organisation of the summit within South Africa on behalf of the government.

"As a South African company and international player, Syspro has answered the challenges of the World Summit - not only logistically, by organising the 66,000 delegates, but also by encouraging corporations to take responsibility for achieving sustainable development," Thusami says.

JOWSCO needed a reliable package for logistics and accounting purposes. The organisers have an ongoing need to provide updated receipts and predict costs for the donor organisations. IMPACT Encore Version 5's Report Writer module made the package an obvious choice.

"Syspro's offer to donate the entire system was a huge saving for JOWSCO," Thusami says. "IMPACT Encore has already been implemented and we are very impressed by its ease of use." The software was implemented for JOWSCO by ProActive Integrators, a member of Syspro's nationwide dealer network.

According to Meryl Malcomess, marketing director of Syspro, the scale and significance of this major United Nations-sponsored event is comparable to that of the World Conference on Racism held in Durban last year.

"It is a chance, not only to promote tourism and investment in the country, but also to make a case for South Africa and the entire continent," Malcomess says. "Syspro is grateful for the opportunity to take its share of corporate social responsibility by donating IMPACT Encore to organise the conference."

A leading ERP software manufacturer, Syspro's IMPACT Encore product is used and supported in more than 50 countries around the world. For more information, go to www.sysprogroup.com.(ADF3)
