Africa: ETV Sells World Cup Rights to Supersport

Johannesburg — FREE-to-air television channel E.tv has sold satellite broadcast rights for the soccer World Cup to sports pay-television company Supersport.

E.tv's head of corporate affairs, Kanthan Pillay, declined to comment yesterday on what the deal meant for E.tv. But industry sources said that securing the World Cup rights appeared to have left E.tv out of pocket, and the sale of satellite rights to Supersport was an attempt to recoup some of the money the station had paid.
