Kenya: Unite Luhya, Luo, Ministers Told

Cabinet ministers Musalia Mudavadi and Raila Odinga have been urged to forge for a Luhya-Luo alliance to enable them achieve their goal in national politics.

MPs Oburu Odinga (Bondo), Odeny Ngure (Rarieda) and Gor Sungu (Kisumu Rural) said the duo who are front runners in President Moi's succession battle can only succeed in their political ambition if they command the two communitys' support.

They said Odinga- Kanu Secretary-General and Muda- vadi, who is one of the party's first vice-chairmen, should unite the two communities to rally behind them before seeking alliance with other ethnic groups ahead of the general election.

The legislators were speaking to reporters at Chavakali market, Vihiga District yesterday.

They said Kanu had become a more formidable force following the historical merger with the National Development Party (NDP).
