Uganda: Court Summons Express Chairman

COURT has summoned the chairman of Express Football Club, Godfrey Richard Kalule Kirumira, to answer charges of assaulting a Kampala businessman, Moses Kalungi.

Kirumira and Kalungi are Kampala businessmen and proprietors of Kirumira Towers and Kalungi Plaza, two of Kampala's modern buildings located next to each other on William Street.

Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate Charles Serubuga ordered Kirumira to appear in court on May 31 to answer the charges.

Kirumira, 38, of Muyenga who is also the managing director of Baggrey Trading Company, is said to have attacked Kalungi and started a fight at a city pub.

Prosecution alleges that he committed the offence on December 26, 2001 at Nakulabye in Kampala, where he assaulted Kalungi by insulting him, pouring beer on his head and beating him up.
