Uganda: Masaka Relaxes Ban On Prayers

Masaka assistant Resident District Commissioner, Joyce Lugasa, has defied orders of her boss, the resident district commissioner (RDC) by lifting a ban that had been slammed on night prayers in the area.

Lugasa, a born-again Christian, addressed fellow believers in Nyendo recently and put off the directive of the RDC, Protazio Tugurihwayo, who had declared the ban on security grounds.

Lugasa told The New Vision that no one had the powers to infringe on the rights to worship.

"I stick to what I said. I have allowed night prayers and no one can stop 'balokole' to pray as they want," she said.

She said the Police could only tighten security where 'balokole' stage night prayers but not stop them.

"The Government believes in God. We cannot stop believers from praying because they have not broken any law of Uganda," she said. Ends
