Nigeria: Delsu Authorities Raise Alarm On Cult Groups

THE authorities of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, yesterday raised an alarm that some secret cult groups were regrouping in the institution to unleash terror on the students and asked the law enforcement agents to quickly come to its aid.

The institution in an official bulletin issued by the Information and Public Relations Division of the Vice-Chancellor's office stated that the cult groups were presently holding nocturnal meetings in the neighbourhood to perfect strategies to unleash terror on defenseless students.

The bulletin disclosed that no efforts would be spared to uncover those behind the sinister moves in order to create permanent peace in the university town.

The authorities of the university reminded and warned all its students of the consequences of their involvement in secret cult activities, maintaining that "cultism in all the campuses of DELSU is banned and remains banned."

The DELSU management said any student suspected of belonging or caught or identified with cult groups would be handed over to the police and in addition expelled from the university.

"Any student molested or intimidated by a fellow student should report same to the appropriate authority for necessary action. The university is aware of the nefarious regrouping of some cults and names are being currently compiled for processing for expulsion."

The institution warned parents and guardians to watch the activities of their children and wards, especially the kind of company they keep, stressing that he law stipulating expulsion for involvement in secret cult activities would be strictly applied regardless of the status of their parents in the society.

Meanwhile, the institution has announced dates for orientation exercise for new students to take place from Tuesday 14th to Friday 31st May.

the institution warned all fresh students that the exercise was compulsory as it would enable them acquaint themselves with the university community.
