Nigeria: Labour Congress Kicks Against Privatisation of NEPA, NPAa, Others

Lagos — Just as the Federal Government, through its agencies, the Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE) and the National Council on Privatisation (NCP), vigorously pursues its privatisation programme, Nigerian workers have restated their resolve to resist the privatisation of key parastatals not originally listed for privatisation in addition to those in the water, education and health sectors.

The agitation, which started with telecommunication workers, has spread to the electricity as well as maritime industry, a situation, which has forced the congress to adopt serious measures in the prosecution of its anti-privatisation struggles. The congress also advised potential investors not to bid for the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), as doing so would result in the loss of their deposits.
