Nigeria: Three Shot As Police, Bakassi Boys Exchange Gunfire

AN exchange of fire between the police and members of the Abia state vigilante group, alias Bakassi, over an attempt by the Bakassi to commandeer a vehicle at Ohafia has left two people, including an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), seriously wounded.

Although the Abia state commissioner of police, Mr Olusegun Efuntayo, told newsmen that the Bakassi boys were on a robbery mission, a member of the vigilante group now in police detention said they were in Ohafia to recover a missing vehicle.
