Nigeria: Customs Impounds 102,000 Live Ammunitions

NIGERIA Customs Service (NCS) at the weekend intercepted 102,000 pieces of live ammunitions smuggled into Nigeria from Ghana in what the NCS Comptroller-General, Alhaji Ahmed Mustapha called an abuse of ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS).

Confirming the unprecedented trans-border interception of ammunitions to journalists in Lagos yesterday, the Comptroller-General said two persons including a Ghanaian and a Nigerian (names withheld) have been arrested. According to Mustapha, the life cartridges were concealed inside some trade goods which were on their way from the neighbouring West African country.
